Cats crowd the harbour on Aoshima Island in the Ehime prefecture in southern Japan. An army of cats rules the remote island in southern Japan, curling up in abandoned houses or strutting about in a fishing village that is overrun with felines outnumbering humans six to one.

A friendly manatee surfaces for air at the entrance to Three Sisters Springs in Crystal River, Florida. Record numbers of manatee have been reported in Kings Bay and the Crystal River area during the cold winter. The large concentration of manatee attracts tourists from all around the world putting human pressure on the gentle aquatic mammal.

Wildlife photographer Sergey Ivanov spent days photographing the bears hunting at Kuril Lake in Kronotsy Reserve, Russia. He captured the moment this bear cub caught a huge salmon.

Opening his jaws wide, this hungry hippo is just seconds away from securing his lunch, but the egret takes flight and escapes. The hippo, half-submerged in a lake, spots the egret sitting on a branch in the water, but the lucky bird flies out of sight and off the lunch menu. British photographer David Driver captured the shot in Lake Mburo in Uganda, Africa. The 57-year-old, of Oakworth, West Yorkshire, says: ‘The egret managed to escape moments before the hippo got to him, and so the disappointed beast sank back under the water, clearly unimpressed!

Lambing at Cannon Hall Farm, South Yorkshire, which has opened its gates to armchair farmers who want to get involved with lambing season. Cannon Hall, which attracts up to a million visitors a year to its site and around 300,000 to the farm itself, will have seen around 800 new arrivals by the end of the spring.

The eagles, pictured in Kutno, Poland, spread their enormous wings and scrap in mid-air and on the ground.
