In 1949 James chose the tropical jungles near Xilitla, San Luis Potosí in Mexico for his garden of Eden. 35 years later, 80 acres of natural waterfalls and pools were dotted with staircases to nowhere, concrete flowers with leaves big enough to walk on, and massive sculptures. He was so passionate about the project that he sold his collection of surrealist art to pay for the 5 million dollar project. Honestly!
